Tenerife is a volcano set in the Atlantic, off the coast of Africa: black or golden sand beaches, villages with colourful facades, vineyards clinging to the slopes and Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak, towering over it all. This 12-day stay is based in Puerto de la Cruz, on the north coast, for 10 nights in the same hotel.
Every other day, a guided excursion: the Orotava Valley and its houses with wooden balconies, UNESCO-listed La Laguna and Santa Cruz, an island tour to the Los Gigantes cliffs and the thousand-year-old dragon tree of Icod, the natural pools of Punta Hidalgo with a wine tasting, then a full day in Teide National Park.
The other days are free, for the pool, a stroll along the ocean or an optional excursion to La Gomera island. Most meals are included, among them local-style lunches.
