The trip begins in Windsor, on the banks of the Thames, beneath the towers of the royal castle. That same evening, Oxford welcomes you with a welcome dinner. Three nights in the city of dreaming spires, and as many days to venture beyond its walls: Cogges Manor and the village of Bampton, which Downton Abbey fans will recognise at first glance, Blenheim Palace where Winston Churchill was born, then tea time, served with scones on a tiered stand.
A full day is set aside for the Cotswolds, honey-coloured stone villages where the houses are seven centuries old and bridges span quiet streams. Before leaving Oxford, a guide opens the doors of Christ Church College. On the road to London, Hampton Court Palace tells the story of Henry VIII and its gardens stretch as far as the eye can see.
London then fills five nights. After a panoramic tour, the city is yours: free museums, markets, parks, theatres. Your tour escort remains available for those who prefer to follow along.
