At the foot of Giza, the Sphinx has faced east for more than four thousand years, with the three pyramids standing out behind it. The guide tells the story of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, then of Memphis, the first capital, and the step pyramid of Saqqara. In Luxor, the columns of Karnak rise higher than several men, and in the evening you board the M/S Nile Goddess.
Four nights on the Nile, with the banks drifting by: green fields, palm trees, villages and white-sailed feluccas. The Valley of the Kings, the temple of Hatshepsut, Edfu, Kom Ombo and its crocodile-headed god, then Aswan and the temple of Philae, set on the water. One morning, the road crosses the desert to Abu Simbel, where Ramses II had his temples carved into the cliff.
The return to Cairo takes in the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Khan el-Khalili souk, before two nights in Alexandria, its library and old harbour. The journey ends in the Fayoum oasis, between Lake Qarun and the Wadi El-Rayan waterfalls. A 15-day escorted tour, guaranteed departure, with 27 meals.

Cairo (2 nights). Arrival, transfer and hotel check-in.
